Kanyike Project Trustees
Mary Fenton
I have known about the Kanyike Project almost from its very beginning and loved raising funds for the villagers through the annual St. Francis' College Recycled Fashion Show. Sr Joan invited me to become a Trustee in 2012 and I have been inspired by the progress made since then. It is heart-warming to see the efforts made by so many to help kick-start Kanyike's quest for sustainability.

I have taught at St Francis’ College since 2010 and found myself surrounded by staff who were passionate about the work of the Kanyike Project. I have heard Fr Kakuba speak in lessons and assemblies and have worked with many colleagues and students who have visited Kanyike and seen first-hand the work the charity is supporting.
The Kanyike Project is our 'whole-school charity'. When I became Head of Charities at SFC in 2017, I saw it as my duty to continue to support Kanyike with its deep, intrinsic connection to our community, ethical approach and drive for sustainability.
I became a Trustee in 2022 and have learned so much more about Kanyike and charities in general. This has served to deepen my commitment to all the Project stands for. I love the relationship we have built with Ugandan trustees, employees and families. Our world needs friendship more than ever and it is a joy and privilege to strengthen these bonds through mutual purpose.

I was introduced to the Kanyike Project when I joined St. Francis College, as a teacher, in 2013. In 2016 I had the opportunity to take a small group of Year 12 and 13 students out to Uganda for 10 days to stay in the community and see the work being supported by the charity, in health, education and empowerment. An unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
In 2023, I was invited to become a Trustee and have since taken over the role of School’s Liaison link, visiting schools, giving assemblies, sharing the work of the charity and encouraging fundraising
